We are excited to announce the Health Checklist, one of the newest features of the Radish app! This interactive checklist highlights important health recommendations set forth by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and is a great starting point to get back in touch with your health.

What is the Health Checklist?

Ever wonder why your doctor suggests you get a PAP smear every 3 years, or why you need a colonoscopy starting at age 45? The Health Checklist is a list of age and gender specific health items that you can check off as you complete them and can help guide the discussion when meeting with your doctor for your annual physical.

These recommendations are determined by the USPSTF, a panel of primary care experts that review the scientific evidence to determine when to do what – things like screening for cancer and getting blood tests. These recommendations have been carefully studied over the years and serve to highlight important health screenings while avoiding unnecessary testing.

Why is this important?

We are so fortunate to have access to modern medicine which has been proven to save lives and improve quality of life. The USPSTF recommendations include advice on when to screen for a number of cancers, including breast, colon, prostate, cervical, skin, and lung cancers, as well as when to test for chronic conditions such as high cholesterol and diabetes.

Together, these recommendations represent how we as a society can improve our wellbeing by screening, preventing, and treating a wide variety of conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, mental health, and addiction.

Why should I trust these recommendations?

The USPSTF recommendations are based on scientific studies that look at risks and benefits. At the end of the day they are based on the expert opinion of a panel, and as such are subject to change and debate, but they represent the most up to date guidance to help us make sure we are all staying healthy and getting the health screenings we need.

How can I complete this?

Simply log into your Radish app and click on “Health Checklist” to get started!
