Happy Holidays from Radish Health

Jason Sellers, MD

We want you to know that Radish Health is here for you, even over the holidays. We will have limited hours over the Christmas and New Year’s weekends for all those last-minute medical concerns.

We are here for you!

Things you don’t want to wake up with when you have family arriving later that day: pink eye, a urinary tract infection, an itchy eczema rash, or a cold sore flare up – maybe from all that holiday stress.

Radish Health is here if a last minute medical issue pops up and you need to get in touch with your doctor fast. If you’ve met with us before, we may already even know about your eczema or cold sores and can call in the necessary medication when you need it most.

What are some holiday tips for staying healthy?

If you are trying to focus on health and wellness through diet and exercise, it can be difficult to stick with the routine amidst holiday travels, bountiful sweets and cookies, and fatigue from holiday stress. The important thing to remember is moderation. It’s okay to miss a few workouts, but try to get back to the gym before the month’s up. It’s also okay and even important to indulge in some sweets over the holidays, but think twice when you go for seconds… or thirds!

Dr. McGinn, your Radish psychologist, also shares that it’s okay to not be okay over the holidays! Have a sense of humor when your holiday gatherings inevitably fall short of the idyllic family celebrations depicted in the media. Learn to embrace the chaos and accept, or even joke about, the dysfunction inherent in every family. Likewise, practice self-compassion if your turkey burns, you snap at your in-laws, or you drink too much eggnog.

What can I do now to prioritize my health?

While the lead up to the holidays can often feel busy and hectic, the holidays themselves often give us a chance to slow down and take a deep breath. My one recommendation to prioritize your health over the holidays is to plan ahead. Take some time to think about your health goals. Has it been some time since you’ve seen the doctor? Are you ready to finally lose those pandemic pounds? Do you want to quit smoking or reduce alcohol use? Has it been several years since your last mammogram?

Take some time over the holidays to write down some thoughts and goals. We’re here to help you reach them – feel free to chat with us anytime or schedule an appointment to meet and prioritize your health.

What’s your New Year’s resolution?

As a primary care physician and preventive health advocate, I’ve got some ideas for you!

  1. Log in to the Radish app and click on your “Health Checklist” to review the screenings that you should think about doing before the end of the year or add on to your list for the new year. You can check them off as you complete them to stay on track, right in the app!
  2. If it’s been more than a year since you’ve seen your primary care doctor or gotten blood work, schedule an appointment for the new year. Your PCP will be happy to see you back, and you can even review your Health Checklist together. If you don’t have a PCP, think about making Radish your primary doctor and schedule a virtual physical with Dr. Gandhi or myself.
  3. If there’s a health concern bothering you, don’t wait until your next six month visit with your doctor to bring it up. Feel free to make an appointment with your Radish doctor to talk about that issue and get it resolved to start the year right. You can start by chatting with us now.

We are here to help if needed during the holidays, and we are excited to help you start off 2023 on the right path by prioritizing your health and wellness. From the entire Radish team, we wish you a very happy and healthy holiday!
