Heart Health Awareness: Simple Steps to Keep Your Heart Strong

Author

Jason Sellers, MD

February is Heart Health Month – a perfect reminder to prioritize the most important muscle in your body: your heart.

Heart disease remains a leading cause of illness and death worldwide, but many risk factors can be managed or prevented with the right lifestyle choices and regular care.

At Radish, we encourage everyone to take proactive steps to support cardiovascular health. This includes eating a heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while limiting sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars.

Regular physical activity is another cornerstone of heart health. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, like brisk walking, cycling, or swimming. Exercise helps lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and maintain a healthy weight.

Don’t overlook the importance of managing stress, getting quality sleep, and avoiding tobacco. These lifestyle factors all influence heart health.

Routine screenings – including blood pressure checks, cholesterol testing, and blood sugar monitoring – are vital for early detection and management of risk factors. Your Radish care team can help you schedule these screenings and develop a personalized plan to protect your heart.

Remember, small, consistent changes add up over time. This Heart Health Month, take a moment to reflect on your habits and consider what steps you can take to strengthen your heart for years to come.
